Monday moring packed up the boat to do another day of diving and meet up with a buddy of from spearboard.com named Joe AKA "saltydog" from southern C.A. for his first ever abalone dive and dive on the North coast. we meeting at Ocean cove. As I made the turn coming out of jenner on to hwy 1 I could see that the Ocean was comptley flat, just ripples on the beach at Goat Rock. The whole drive up the coast the water just kept getting beter and beter. When I finally arrived to Ocean Cove and found met up with Joe over at his RV. With great excitement and anticipation we got suited up and got the boat ready and launched. We then headed out of the cove and headed north to the Richardsons Ranch area north of Horse Shoe Point. With clear sky's and calm sea's we made it up there in about 25 min which made for a fun smoth ride. We found a nice looking spot and anchored up and got the last of gear on and begun our dive.Once in the water I could clearly see that we had at least 20 to 25 foot vis and in some spots a little beter. We dove around hunting for some trophy's for a good 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. We ended up doing ok no tens but nice fat 9 inch plus ab's 3 each. What made this day diferent from most is you could see the ab's and the hole and crevices from the surface befor you even dove, which is unusal, it made it easy to be selective and picky, enabled us to cover lots ground. I found it to be very enjoyable and fun to swim through the kelp forest and the schools of blues and blacks, baiscally just enjoyed seeing the local sea life. At that point we put the ab's back in the baot which we taged and grabed the spear guns. We dove around for another 1 to 1 1/2 hunting and shooting fish as well as video and still pics with joes camera. We ended up with 3-nice big Red Vermions, 1-kelp greenling, assorted blues and blacks and 2-Gophers. By the way all of our diving was in 15 to 40 feet with most of it in about 20 to 30 so we could see the bottom, hehe. We then headed home, on the way we at to diferent time once by sea lions and the second by Porpoise's were escorted alongside of us for a good minute or so, which was cool as allways, in all another great day on the sonoma coast.

Great reports Matt

Great reports Matt, glad to hear you're getting out before the season closes. Hope you find something to keep yourself occupied for the next 4 months. Do let us know exactly what the ruling on MLPA's is for next season and where we can and can't dive. Happy holidays. (BTW, are you going to have abalone for Thanksgiving (aka Abalurkey)? There was an article today about how New Englanders are ditching turkey for lobster and I think we should do something similar in N. California).
