Fort Ross Area Excursion
This past weekend (6/5 - 6/8)was one of the best Ab diving I have experienced in sometime. I have been landlocked for several years, but I wanted to get back into it so I purchased a new suit: A pinacle ME-7, which I found very warm and comforatable and all the necessary items. Go see Mary Jo in Morgan Hill. Awesome lady. Kudos to Joe Blasy at Pinnacle for his recommendation.
The tides were good, but the visability was poor. It was windy, no du, that has not changed, but the weather was....but the cars at Reef Point..."holy vey Lucy". The place is picked over...and the limited public access in the area at Fort Ross has killed some of these prized points/coves. An older favorite spot at Timber Cove was met with a trailer dwelleing snob who was going to call the sheriff if we did not fork over $18 to pass through the area...this was my spot when I was a young adult. You may recall some of you, where the rope was? Just along the point there...I remember getting some nice hubs there back in the day...
We camped at Woodside campgrounds, spot #63. We pounded Abalone every night as we partied trying different recipes: Rollerobs, Dabadudes and Uncle Mike's favorite were some of the names around the kitchen. We met some great people who loved the sport and shared there spots with us, (like we did not know already) - Thanks Bob and Sharon.
I am truly dissapointed with the way Reef Point is...I remember it different...anyway good luck to you all...nice to be a member and...

Sounds like a good times.
Sounds like you all had a great time besides the fact the vis sucked. The important thing is you got out there and had fun and got your abs, well done. If you think it is bad now with getting acess to your favorite sots wait till next year when the MLPA takes affect ! We all are in for a big shock come next season.
Fort Ross Area
The visibility did suck...I wish it was better, but you can't have it all, especially with Mother Nature and the north coast ocean I dove hard. This trip was work. I am concerned with the MLPA. I was sent some information and questionaire from the DFG and never heard from them. I just sent them a letter to tell them about the unruly Ab pickers I witnessed. I nearly got into a fist fight. We found a guy stashing seven abs under a rock on shore and we voiced our opinion to him...on several levels. I do think the DFG does a great job in checking...but they cannot be everywhere. More later
Way to go !!!!!! More of us need to step up !
Right on for you and your pal steping up and saying somthing to that S.O.B stashing ab's. I wish their were more of us like that it. It would make it alot harder for these kind of things to go on. DFG can ot be everywhere all the time that is why we need every ones eyes and ears. Those are the guys that give the rest of us a bad name. It is a shame that people do not respect and appericiate the sport and resource that we are on the verge of lossing the ablity to enjoy. There is a hotline you can call I belive it is 1-800-caltip. To report these assholes ! If possable try to get their vechile lic# make and color or you can go to the nearest ranger station or I am sure the local stores up there could help you notify the right people especally Gary at ocean cove. By the way great report.
mlpa?
what is up with the MLPA? what does that mean? fill me in.
MLPA
Marine Life Protection Act. It is the a commite that works with the State, DFG and the enviromentalst on the rules and regs of the Ocean fishery. Such as closures of sertian areas, and classfying them in diferent catorgorys. Like marine park, Marine resvere and so forth. They have a few propsals their are considering but it looks like they are going to go with 2XA. They have already put in place new regs and closeures on the southern part of the coast and the northern is next.TYou can go to MLPA.com and get more info or Their is a website called coast side fishing club.com that has a whole fourm on this topic all you have to do is regester as a member. Their is also keep america fishing.com both are very informative on this matter. I have sent letters to the state,DFG, the governor and the MLPA expressing my opions and thoughts on this matter and my total surport to keep the fishery open for us sportsmens or sportswomen.I Must "PC" you know so please do not hestate to send leters of yor own. Must let voices be heard on this matter. If we do not we have no room to say anything when they do make their decsion.
