Shark Bait (cove)

Bigfoot's picture

There is a cove on the northern end of Salt Point State Park that we have nicknamed Seal Cove for a long time, but in hindsight, it would be better called SharkBait because of the topography. In the ten years i have been diving and visiting this cove, i have never not seen seals there.. not one or two, but many which is why i kept going back.. i love playing with and diving around seals.. they are so playful and curious.

however,

there is a large tidepool that the seals seem to always be hanging out it that is near the beach but behind some rocks... this could be because sharks cant get into it.

there are always seals there... seals being at a cove is one thing, but knowing that seals are there every time lends itself to the thought that if we know it, so could sharks.

the cove is teaming with fish to feed the seals so they arent going anywhere... and in the water i look like a seal to a shark

nakeddiver and i got a really bad feeling this last time when we starting picking the cove apart and decided that we will probably not dive here again.. the abs are ok.. 8" to 9"s, but ya know, once ya get a bad feeling, its hard to shake it and still have fun

Worrying about sharks.

When you enter the water you enter the food chain. That feeling is one of the things that make the sport so exciting and thrilling is that risk and danger. also in my opinion you have a lot better chances of dieing from a car accident of getting hit lighting then you do getting bit by the LAND LORD unless you are diving at the farlons or bird rock. just my thoughts.

upping your chances

i agree... i tell my parents and friends that i have more of a chance of dying driving up there than actually diving (something they dont wanna hear either way.. lol).. the thrill is always there, but i dont need to push up my chances any further than usual.
