Ab diving Horse Shoe Cove on 5-10-08

matt mattison's picture

Went diving today at Horse Shoe Cove. Went with my buddy rob, we arrived to the pull off to great dive conditions. We got suited up and headed down the rope to the beach. Got on the edge of the water to put my fins on and what do a find but a brand new abalone iron laying right in front of me in the kelp, thought to my self this is a great start to the dive. I did not relize how great the vis was till we got in. There must have ben at least 15 feet of vis if not more which is rare for a 1 foot minius tide. Swam around looking for about an one hour mostly enjoying the sceanery. Got my limit of nine's and also shot one lingcod that was 40 inches long also found a pole spear . So in all it was a wonderful day, one of those days you realy enjoy and reminds me why I started diving. I hope the conditions hold for tomorrow going to do a mothers day picnic at Ocean Cove and taking the wife for her first Ab dive of the season.

Great report as always, hope

Great report as always, hope you'll post some pics soon. Where exactly is Horseshoe Cove?

Glad to see someone still posts here. This website is starting to remind me of a barren, picked out area of ocean bottom!

Hey now...

I built the site for diver to have discussions, share pictures and stories.
If it's barren it because no one is doing anything. The more people contribute the better it should be. Everyone just wants to know the secret spot and doesn't care for anything else. Do you know how many people sign up but really hardly ever come back... I have 15-30 people a day, I keep hoping that you guys will keep using the site and add your stories.
Matt I appreciate your efforts along with everyone's pictures. I'm trying to get a chat program operating but it keeps messing up, hopefully when that's up more people will be on more regularly.

I was feeling the same way,

I was feeling the same way, Abdiver12. I hope it gets more active because it has ben pretty slow. But I try to do my part. I just hope my post are interesting and infomative and not boring. Take care and have a great day and remember allways be safe. Horse Shoe Cove is located at the very far North end of Salt Point State Park. If you drive up Hwy 1 a couple of miles you will eventully see a sign on the south bound side of the road saying salt point state park. you park ar the turn off and follow the trail by the sign down to the rope.

Horse Shoe Cove

When you stop there look for the Fossils. I once found a full skeleton of a bird or lizard about the size of a dog once. It was pretty crazy. It was in a boulder from the shear cliff. Horse Shoe Cove rocks along with Secrets just south of it.
I grew up picking and diving Horse Shoe, but it's been a long time since that creek wiped out most of the pathway down last we went; now it just down the zig zag trail with a rope.

Suggestions?

Do you guys have any suggestions?
I'd love to know how we can improve the site...
Let me hear it...

Thanks for the info Matt,

Thanks for the info Matt, your posts are ALWAYS informative and entertaining. I'll never forget the one about the whales. Hope you guys continue to have a great season and lets hope the conversation picks up a little on this website. I know for a fact that we abdivers are not a shy bunch! Take care.
